Webinar details

This 3-hour webinar describes the networking requirements of various cloud services (from infrastructure virtualization to software-as-a-service solutions) and designs you can use to build scalable data center networks that support them, with the focus on Infrastructure-as-a-Service and underlying scalable architectures.

The webinar has been completely redesigned in March 2017. The videos recorded in 2014 will be replaced by new versions in April 2017

If you’re a network architect, designer or implementation engineer working in environments that plan to introduce cloud-based services, this three hour webinar is a must-have overview of available technologies, network designs, and scalability concerns.

Contents

The webinar covers three major topics:

  • Cloud services overview;
  • Networking requirements of various cloud services;
  • Typical private and public cloud virtual networking infrastructure;
  • Hybrid clouds and over-the-cloud connectivity.

Cloud services overview

This part of the webinar describes:

  • Cloud services taxonomy;
  • Infrastructure-as-a-Service networking services overview;
  • Networking requirements of various cloud services;
  • Basic IaaS network services implementations
  • Multi-tenant requirements

Tenant network implementations

The following categories of virtual networking solutions are described in this part of the webinar:

  • Multi-tenant isolation with packet filters or virtual firewalls;
  • Using virtual switches to enforce QoS/SLA guarantees;
  • Fabric-based virtual networks (VLAN-based fabrics and overlay solutions)
  • Hypervisor-based virtual networks (including VMware NSX and Hyper-V Network Virtualization)
  • Large-scale hypervisor-based virtual networks (including Hyper-V, Juniper Contrail, and Amazon VPC)

This section will also help you select the most appropriate architecture and multi-tenant virtual networking technology for your problem based on the number of physical servers and tenants you envision in your environment.

Over-the-Cloud Connectivity and Hybrid Clouds

When you're trying to connect an existing data center infrastructure with a public cloud, or connect workloads deployed in multiple public clouds (or multiple regions of the same cloud provider) you could rely on hybrid clouds solutions offered by the public cloud provider, or on over-the-cloud connectivity. This section covers both approaches.

About the webinar

Cuts through all hype and gets to the real issues.

Tom Zeller
I have always enjoyed ipSpace.net webinars. There is a wealth of information to be processed and appreciated.

Ivan, you are an absolute networking legend!
Of all the networking knowledge sources I have ever found, your training stands head and shoulders above the rest by cutting through all the noise, and just getting the the key points with clear and concise information. For industry use this is perfect.
The only suggestion I could make is to improve the audio quality, as many of your recordings have lots of echo.
And Lemin
Good, as usual ... but by my reckoning, we got down to nuts and bolts at 17:33 roughly (CET). I think that the material presented until then was a preamble, which could have been shortened.
Otherwise, the material was relevant and the speaker is an erudite and multi-faceted expert.
Etienne-Victor Depasquale
Great to understand the why and how of the clouds.
Dominique Maillard
Very clear and useful final thoughts
Ilka Ilieva

About the instructor

He provides strong personal opinions built on the field that aren't easy to provide elsewhere without loosing a lot of time with vendors who try to seduce you.
Francesco Baraldi
Perhaps consider allowing participants to raise their hands and speak, rather than type.

Prerequisites

To attend this webinar, you should be familiar with the basics of layer-2 switching, VLANs, IPv4, IP routing and Internet-related protocols (DNS and HTTP).

Awareness of virtual networking concepts and VMware-related challenges are highly recommended. Consider listening to the Introduction to Virtual Networking and VMware Networking Technical Deep Dive webinars.

Delivery format

The Networking in Private and Public Clouds is a 3-hour presentation that can be delivered over the Internet, as an on-site workshop, or combined with other topics into a longer overview presentation or incorporated into a customized webinar or workshop
